Crystalline
Statement
Based on crystalline and geological source imagery, these works explore the beauty, mystery and power of geological formations and their perceived properties. Within them are micro-macro relationships, originating as very small subjects while appearing simultaneously mountainous or planetary.
Completed between 2010 and 2013, these works were painted on custom, shaped wood panels, their unusual shapes and realistic perspectives creating a trompe l’oeil (trick of the eye) effect on the wall, appearing three dimensional, as though they were suspended in the while field of the wall. Painted using acrylic and oil, these works explored a range of effects from painterly abstraction to photo-realistic representation.
